Xylitol is a naturally occurring five carbon sweetener found in birch tree bark and other fruits and vegetables.
Xylitol prevents Strep Mutans, the cavity causing bacteria, from creating tooth-eating acid. It also reduces the plaque they create and it even aids in the re-mineralization (healing) of the enamel of your teeth.
The therapeutic dose is 6 grams per day. That can be achieved by gums, mints, mouth rinse and tooth paste. If you take 3 grams per day, you get no benefit unfortunately. Xylitol is an all or nothing treatment. The great news is it is very easy to implement in your daily life.
